This is an absolute gem in DC with an eclectic menu and something for ever my palate. The staples are comfort food based, something very much a staple in diner cuisine. The restaurant vibe is a take on Upscale diner experience. The service was very attentive and welcoming. Sam did a wonderful job as our waiter and provided awesome hospitality and remained attentive the whole evening. Great service and very helpful with pointing out the best dishes of his opinion on the menu. As for the food….sublime. The whole meal was fantastic from the Sweet Potato Parker House rolls to the double cheeseburgers that were perfection in every bite, a fried chicken sandwich that would tantilize the taste buds, to what truly became a star of the show, the DESSERTS!!! Basque cheesecake, carrot cake, and the chocolate cake were consumed with no crumbs to spare. This was an awesome diner experience. Will absolutely return for the everyday bunch they serve from open to 3:45PM, 7 days a week. Already looking forward to coming back!

It was a pleasant experience, the atmosphere was nice and welcoming. The host and waiters were super friendly, super nice. The restaurant was tidy and clean, unfortunately there was a dirty glass which they changed with a plastic cup, I'll give them 8/10 on that. Talking about the food: I ordered, ● Chiken & waffles: was below average, came really dry and flavorless, very sad. ● Greek Full dead salad with Salmon: was ok, the Salmon was a little over. ● French dip poutine: was good but really heavy. ● Cajun Srimp & Grits: was dilecious. ● Double cheese Burger & Frise: was ok, could be better. The fries are really good. ● Buttermilk pancakes: was to the dry side, but it was ok. The Srawbarry and Brownie cakes area really dilecious. Food quality was ok, survise was really good though. Thank you Carlos. Would I come back? Yes, I would.

Absolutely Delicious. What should you order: Anything! This place has delicious food across the whole menu. We ended up coming two day in a row as it was that tasty. The loaded breakfast biscuits were crazy flavorful. My wife loved the pancakes, which were top notch. The star of the show was the chocolate cake, which may be the best Chocolate cake I’ve ever eaten. Overall come here hungry and leave super happy!

Wasn't sure what to expect, the diner is highly rated and recommended. Place was very packed, was able to get a spot at bar counter. The chicken waffle was delicious, crispy not oily with tasty unorthodox seasoning as the name suggests. Only mistake was server forgot about my order of basque cheesecake, was short on time and had to take it to go. Was not expecting an item like this on a diner menu, but was still a delicious version.

Deconstructed plates with delicious flavors and a diverse menu that offers familiar yet interesting choices. The carrot cake was the best I’ve ever had. Unfortunately, the service didn’t match the quality of the food. I asked for a sandwich without meat and it came out wrong. It took a long time for them to bring the corrected plate back, and by then everyone else at the table was already eating. We also ordered different egg preparations, and they all came out incorrectly. The service felt inattentive. Despite the service issues, the food itself was very good and ultimately made up for some of the experience.

All praise to my waiter Elijah! He recommended everything I ate on the menu. The sweet potato bread rolls, chicken parm, Hawaiian Punch (non alcoholic bev) and chocolate cake were too good. 10 out of 10! Can’t wait to come back and try more of the menu. The atmosphere, music, and overall vibes were perfect for a Sunday afternoon.

Unconventional Diner is definitely a spot I enjoy, especially during happy hour. Their burger happy hour deal is a great value because it comes with fries and a drink, and the burger is always cooked well and full of flavor. The fries are fresh, crispy, and pair perfectly with the meal. I also tried the kale nachos and was honestly impressed. It’s a unique twist, but it works really well and doesn’t feel like you’re missing out on real nachos. Everything was seasoned perfectly and the portion size was solid. To top it off, the frozen margarita was smooth, refreshing, and the perfect drink to go with the food. Overall, Unconventional Diner has great happy hour options, good vibes, and food that’s worth coming back for.

We had an awesome brunch at Unconventional Diner. The food was cooked perfectly and so tasty. I ordered the loaded breakfast biscuits, which reminded me a bit of a Hawaiian loco moco. The sausage on them was spicy, super flavorful, and clearly homemade or locally sourced, not the generic, pre-packaged stuff. Every bite was rich and satisfying. We also tried the crème brûlée French toast. It came as one thick slice of brioche with a layer of custardy crème brûlée and a crackly sugar topping. I expected it to be overwhelmingly sweet, so I was a little nervous at first, but it was actually perfectly balanced. The sweetness was just right and paired really well with the brioche, giving it a great mix of sweet and savory. On the side, the cheesy grits were fantastic, creamy, comforting, and full of flavor. Overall, I’d definitely go back and would happily recommend Unconventional Diner to any of my friends looking for a great brunch spot.
